Katherine Healy was formerly a principal ballerina with the English National Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, and the Vienna Sate Opera Ballet Company, as well as an international guest artist.

At the age of fourteen, she became the youngest gold medalist ever to win the prestigious International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria.

She was the subject of the children's book, “A Very Young Skater”, starred in the movie, “6 Weeks” with Mary Tyler Moore and Dudley Moorre and was a permanent guest with the John Curry Skating Company.

She graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History.

Her professional skating appearances include (among others) “Superskates”,” ProSkate”, “An Evening With Champions”, “Scott Hamilton's Celebration On Ice”, several editions of Vail Figure Skating Festival (televised on TBS), “the Toller Cranston Tribute” and “The Next Iced Age”, as well as extensive work with the Ice Thetare of New York.

She has performed many times on television, including appearances on ABC's Wide World of SPorts (most recently on the Equal Challenge of Champions) and on PBS.

In addition, Healy is currently a senior coach and choreographer at Sports-O-Rama (Monsey, New York) and at Iceland (New Hyde Park, New York).

She has coached a number of competitive figure skaters in the New York area at the regional, sectional, junior national and national levels.

The Ice Theatre of New York (the nations' oldest and most prestigious theatrical skating company_ commissioned Healy to choreograph her first ensemble peice for the Company in 2002.

The work, entitled “Through a Class, Darkly”, for seven skaters and set to music by Camille Saint-Saens, received its premiere and opening run of performances in November 2002, during the Company's home season in New York City.

In 2003, she re-staged former New York City Ballet principal Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux's work,” Ice Moves” for the Company, which was performed in Chelsea Piers, Rockefeller Center and Eisenhower Hall Theatre in West Point, NY.

Most recently, Ice Theatre commissioned her to create an original work in honor of the Company's twentieth anniversary.

The piece entitled “Cracked Ice”, was premiered at the twentieth anniversary gala in October, 2004 in New York City.

In addition, Healy was the subject of an extensive profile in the October 2002 issue of Ice Skating Magazine and she has performed with the Ice Theatre of New York as a guest soloist on a regular basis.

She's got real talent! Being a great ballet dancer allowed her to succeed in the figure skating field as well. ;)
