Jumping Cholla get their name because of how easy an entire branch will come off of the plant. A curious onlooker can simply touch the spike, as you would any other Cactus, such as a Saguaro, but the Jumping Cholla will easily get stuck on your hand, pull off from the main plant and launch dozens of spines into your hand. Cool, huh?
