The last (alas, unfinished) fugue that Bach wrote is more than a few streets ahead of any of the Baroque competition. The third of its four themes begins B flat-A-C-B natural, or in German notation B-A-C-H. And my favourite fugue, the one from the Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, BWV542 – you can get it free at classiccat.net – is a masterpiece of ingenuity (as well as sounding great) that shows why Bach is still played and listened to more than 250 years after his death. How many of today’s composers (I’m being careful here not to name any!) will still be around in the year 2300?

“Bach” means “stream” in English.

Beethoven said, “His name should be Ocean, not stream.”

His music is wonder! How can he be so organized with his composition, it remains a mystery to me.

Strongly agreed to Beethoven's comment.
