“Jem” is an American animated television series that ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication. The show is about a singer, Jem, her band the Holograms, and their adventures. I’d dance to all the cassette tapes that came with each doll when I was little. Jem dolls were far superior to Barbie.

I too had some Jem dolls and can confirm their vast superiority over all doll-dom. They were also proportionally bigger than barbie too, if memory serves -- I remember my pink-haired, rock-chick, totally-radical ultra-megababe positively towering over my friend's crappy barbies, but that just might be because Jem is made out of pure awesome.
I have a Jem t-shirt and a hoodie and I get ppl in their mid to late 20s come up to me when I wear them and say "Aren't you too young for Jem?" And I'm like "I was born in 1988, thank you, and I got all the tapes from Blockbuster when I was little"
I just loved this program! One of my favorite as a kid.
I had a Jem doll, the Misfits leader. It had a cassettes with 3 songs in it. I just loved it :)
