The last time I used Picasa I found that it inserts itself into EVERY file on your system that contains any kind of graphic. It took me days to get rid of it.
IrfanView is absolutely free, contains no spyware, no adware, is not trying to sell you anything. I have used it for about 10 years now. Even though I have PhotoShop Elements, I use IrfanView for about 95% of my photo editing.
