Strictly speaking this is Hong Kong cinema…

Martin Scorsese can have his Oscar, but this is the original and the best.

make sure you watch infernal affairs 1 and 3 only.

Yeah, The Departed was such a letdown Frown. I knew Infernal Affairs would be tough to beat but I still expected to at least enjoy it. All the parts that were directly lifted off of Infernal Affairs were either disappointing or misused. You can't argue that it isn't a well-made movie but it feels completely soulless. The whole point of the first movie, the deeper meaning and the emotional connection between the characters was painfully absent.

I can only assume that we're not supposed to like any of the Departed characters but it would have been nice to feel some sympathy for at least one of them. While I loved everyone in Infernal Affairs only Mark Wahlberg got my attention, but only because he was amusing. They also tried too hard to gain sympathy for Martin Sheen's Queenan.

I watched this last night, right away I had this feeling of deja vu… but when they met in the stereo shop I knew I had seen this film before. I remember it was good so I watched it again. Having seen the departed a few times, I was blown away at how much of the film Hollywood ripped off, it's like they just added some american slang here and there and got some big names. I enjoyed the departed very much but since this is the original it gets my vote. Also, the main characters were much more real and genuine in this film.
