"The Best American Erotica Writer" as a description tells me that you missed something, unless you simply read the smut he and Nin put out during the Paris years in order to pay the rent.
Courageous enough to despise man, and quiver in nihilist longing, with rich descriptions and justifications for how life is shitty… but beautiful. Been there. There are great moments captured in the Tropic series, yet I see no reason for man to embrace an in between period. Even Miller, in his own expressive style, highlights this in his later writing. To have been a fisherman… or a hummingbird. I suppose New York slums are not the place to experience enlightenment.

Henry Miller captures the essence of a true man in his writing. Most men just aren't couragous enough to embrace there it.
