Guided by Voices

Guided By Voices were a lo-fi pop band led by former schoolteacher Robert Pollard, active from the mid-80s to the end of 2004. Pollard was (and still is, as a solo artist) an extremely prolific songwriter, with an output of almost one album per year during GBV’s existence, and their albums frequently contained 20 or more songs. These songs were frequently very brief—2 minutes or shorter—yet still managed to encapsulate the sensibility of longer pop songs in so small a space. Perhaps their most famous album is 1994’s Bee Thousand.
