Conversation is great. Pity it's getting lost. I find it most annoying when the awkward silence takes place.

Its easy to find a great conversation, open MSN messagner and tell the person your chatting to you want want to share a idea, have a opinion about a person or discuss some event.

That is if you are willing to hear someone else his opinion, what for most people must be the real problem

w/e
my question on this was serious. people talk about wanting to have a great conversation. So the question what a great conversation is, is nothing more then reasoneble.
ileah
ileah posted over 2 years ago

ok ok i apologize. i think a good conversation is one were even if your not talking u get more out if then if u had…

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted over 2 years ago

no no I disagree Ileah, i think that a in a great conversation is way to vague to describe an exchanging of ideas and thoughts in a verbal, physical, mental way. There are so many ways of communicating yourself, and then on top of that the ideas you are trying to communicate vary in inportance from person to person so I honestly think that no ONE  person can answer your question boomy because it varies....

well anyways thats just my opinion

ileah
ileah posted over 2 years ago

i agree

there r many diffrent types of conversatins and many diffrent ways to have good a good conversation

it all depends on who u talk to and what u talk about

Boomstam
Boomstam posted over 2 years ago

Im not fully agreeing brunett,

A conversation has a purpose. Talk to laugh, to learn, to educate, to solve problems or a combination of these, and maybe more. The viaritys has mostly a name, think of: brainstorm, debate, interview, chitchat.
We can like all sorts of conversations, but most likely is we dont like them all. Think of the last great conversation you had, what kinda was it? with what subject or purpose? with who was it? was it early or late in the day? were you sober, drunk or stoned? Happy, thoughtfull or sad?

All of these things make a conversation great, or bad.

So, define for yourself. what is a great conversation? Maybe a better question is: What was a great conversation?

AJMcFly
AJMcFly posted over 2 years ago

I find the best conversation is with someone who you are innately confortable with and feel a bond with. That way it can include both emotion and intellect, while having a feeling of peace without reserve or anxiety.

I think you can have a great conversation with anyone – even if you just met them. Basically, for it to be a good conversation all involved parties will be paying attention, not thinking about what to have for dinner tonight. If everybody is listening intently, thinking hard about what to say, and not being rude, you can't fail to have a great conversation, whatever the subject or your point of view.

swissbob posted over 2 years ago

My best conversations were with incidental acquintances in ferry boats, trains, airplanes, beach bars far away from home. Sometimes conduct in mixed laguages and with the help of hands and feet we managed to arrive very closed to the meaning of life. No, I'm kiding of course we didn't. But with the certitude we will meet never again there was no impediment to a form of sincerity that often is not possible with close friends.

MastaKink
MastaKink posted over 2 years ago

I agree with all of you, doesn't much matter if it's with close friends or strangers, nor does the topic matter. I would think that opposing views would make for a better convo, but perhaps not, finding common ground with another is great to.

Also, sex is a great convo without words...

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted over 2 years ago

I'd have to agree more with Swiss than Aj. I find that I can be much more open to strangers when having a true conversation because they dont know your history or past they wont be able to bring up what you say in your future to hurt you or whatever. They can only judge you for that moment in time when the conversation is going on and if it is truely a great conversation then the judgment will be good.

I honestly dont remeber that last really  great conversation that I had, which kind of disappoints me because it is such a great feeling. But out of the oppstions that were given by Boomstam i would have to say that my favorite would be a debate, not an arguement but when both parties truely understand the others stance on the subject and still want to give a better (in their eyes) way to handle something.

Im not sure purp oct, people have to have a companion to have a G.C.
It always takes atleast 2 sides. And besides that, if a person dont like sports, a convo about soccer wouldnt be so easy. So theoreticly you might be right, but in life those things does make a diffrence, imho.

i agree with swissbob that most G.C. are incidential when they are with friends or fam. Dont know how that comes, maybe because no one knows when "both" sides are open enough for it.
I really like socratic conversation, mostly because people have little choise to conses with each other.
And hopefully brunette will have soon a GC again ;)

I feel bad for people who don’t have great conversations with their friends. I feel if someone knows you intimately, you can feel like you can say anything and they’ll understand, whether they agree or not.

I absolutely detest having conversations with strangers, because they cannot understand my POV or where I’m coming from. I can’t open up and have to hold something back, and that’s not fun. Those who I know I am certain WON’T judge me, while those who are strangers I feel will, because they don’t understand me. Plus, I have to trust someone to have a really good conversation.

So that is to say, I feel the best conversations take place when all masks/facades are removed and you don’t have to worry about being judged by the other person for your opinion. But I am more introverted and worry about that sort of thing more, and more outgoing people might not have a problem with it.

swissbob

I never said or thought one can not have great conversations with friends. People that know you intimately will understand you, of course. Usually one has friends with similar interests, points of view, economical possibilities, religious or political believes, hobbies, affections and so on. This people will help you, I hope, when you are in troubles, when you need encouragement, assistance or any other kind of help. But this is not what makes up a great conversation. A great conversation is the face up with ideas one never heard before. On the top of this there is the possibility to reinvent the own ideas. Not for the eternity; perhaps just for an evening, for a couple of miles. I like to converse with people to learn something from theirs and not to persuade them from the trueness of my own. (What a shameless liar am I.)

great conversation is awesome no doubt – especially with chemistry – but i can't help givin one of my fav quotes – "i have often thought, that talking to one's self is the only way to ensure an intelligent and witty conversation" – lol

did u guyz actaully manage to agree on something (for once) (since i din't read the convo) or do u all just like to write alot and make my head spin around? ;)

Silthilar
Silthilar posted over 2 years ago
I think they just like to write a lot and make your head spin around.  I know I like to write a lot and make your head spin around.  It's very fun.  Writing a lot and making your head spin around, I mean.  Spin around.  Round and round.  Round round like a record baby round round.  Like a record.  I wonder how those work as frisbees.  Me gusta frisbee.  I likes it much.  We have a record by PDQ Bach.  It's funny.  Very funny.  I daresay Most Extremely Funny.  Funny like none other.  I cried the first time I listened to it.  So did the rest of my family.  Cried like a baby.  Babies are cute.  I like babies.  Train of thought.  Long train of thought.  Random.
