Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace was an Italian fashion designer and the brother of Donatella and Santo Versace. Their other sister, Tina, tragically died of a tetanus infection at 12 years old. Gianni was known for his creative designer clothes, influenced partly by Andy Warhol's work. He was openly homosexual and was also well known for his overall friendly demeanor. Gianni was also known to dote on his nieces and nephews. His clientele included Madonna, Elton John, and Princess Diana. Gianni's domestic partner was Antonio D'Amico. On July 15th, 1997, Gianni was tragically murdered on the steps of his South Beach, Florida mansion. He was killed by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who'd killed four others before shooting Gianni. Cunanan killed himself soon thereafter. Gianni had won at least one award in his career and had also done some acting work. Following his death, celebrities were sadly no longer able to walk the streets without bombardment or a group of bodyguards - something they'd felt freely able to do beforehand. Gianni's old house has since been made into a hotel. His ashes were cremated and given back to his family's estate in Italy.
