Genjo Sanzo, or Sanzo (玄奘三蔵 Genjo Sanzō) is one of the four main characters in the manga and anime series Saiyuki (Known as Gensoumaden Saiyuki in Japan). His name is spelled Genjo Sanzo in the English anime and the Singapore English manga, while in the North American English manga it is Genjyo Sanzou (the -jō is spelt in hiragana as ji-(yo)-u, with a small yo to indicate a glide rather than separate syllables). In the anime, his English voice actor is David Matranga and his Japanese voice actor is Seki Toshihiko. He was rescued as a baby from the waters of the Yangtze river by Kōmyō-Sanzō. The boy was named Kōryū of the "river flow"; a name he used until he was thirteen.
He is generally called "Sanzo" by his traveling companions, although his full title is "The 31st of China, Genjo Sanzo". A brutal, worldly man, he doesn't fit the stereotypical image of the passive, or pacifist, cleric. Disregarding basic Buddhist principles, he smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish, gambles, swears like a sailor, and generally follows his own path. Sanzo is a cold, rational thinker and somewhat aloof. Arrogant and short tempered, he nonetheless prefers to remain above the melee unless the situation is desperate. He is strongly opinionated, and despite his terse demeanor, highly moralistic and quick to defend the weak. His primary weapon is a five-shot Smith and Wesson revolver, which he wields as an expert marksman and is rarely without in combat. A secondary "weapon" is the holy sutra he carries on his shoulders, the Maten Sutra ("scripture of darkness"). Last but not least, he's often quick to whip out his harisen (paper fan) and whack his way through the occasional interparty conflict (usually Goku).

Genjo Sanzo is a high rank monk in the story and not as helpless as we might think!! Really- he's not a pious monk and I just love the way he is...! iN FACT; he defies all the basic rules of a monk and also has a very nasty temper- whack Goku and Gojyo with his paper fan which suddenly came out from nowhere
Goku loves him very much and his beautiful blond hair as well-- Sanzo is strongly bonded with Goku. Besides, he never admit that he cares about that cute monkey boy(Goku). To Goku, Sanzo is shining like the sun because of his blond hair!! I always dream of being with Sanzo; if I'm going to die
I'd love die in Sanzo's lap.... ohhh just kidding, it's a dream that'll never come true.. how sad. He will always be in my heart... because he is my favourite blond anime character!!! Genjo Sanzo is the best!(for me!)
For me Genjo Sanzo hoshi-sama aka Koryuu is bad boy character yet a very nice one. I like his attitude and the way he handle the party and also handy when it comes to fighting the bad guys! Sometimes, he's the one who needs protection from Goku; we can count for how many times he's being wounded by the demons!! Well, he's infamous and highly respected by the people- he's arrogant or maybe being low profile so that the villagers won't bother him. He's so special and adorable. I love him so much!! For those that haven't watch saiyuki yet, go on and check them out! Then you guys will know how nice and lovable they're.... especially mr mom Sanzo!!! Sanzo-ikko the best!!!

Why Sanzo is the best? Because he's cool and very good looking protagonist! He has beautiful purple eyes and shining blond hair—Besides, he's Son Goku's sun. His nasty temper makes the party lively. What's special about him is that he's a monk that never shaves and terminated demons with his special gun— I just love it!
Squeeee! I love it when he scratches his head with his gun, I always want to scream "DUDE, THAT'S LOADED!!!". Hehehe. Love the ep with the cat, too. Priceless!
