Fred Dalton Thompson (born August 19, 1942) is an American lawyer, lobbyist, character actor and former Republican Senator from Tennessee (now a resident of McLean, Virginia), who has announced that he is considering a bid in the 2008 Presidential Election. He is well-known for playing District Attorney Arthur Branch in several of the Law & Order series.
