Franz Ferdinand are a British rock band based in Glasgow named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. As of 2006, Franz Ferdinand are composed of Alexander Kapranos (lead vocals, lead guitar), Robert Hardy (bass guitar and backing vocals), Nicholas McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), and Paul Thomson (drums, backing vocals).
They are primarily known as a Scottish band yet only the drummer, Paul Thomson, was born in Scotland (Edinburgh). The other three members were born in England, moving to Scotland later in life. Alex was born in Almondsbury, South Gloucestershire; Nick was born in Blackpool, Lancashire; and Bob was born in Bradford, Yorkshire
They have released two albums, a self titled debut in 2004 and 2005’s “You Could Have It So Much Better.” Best known for their hit “Take Me Out.”
