According to Wikipedia Flange is an external or internal rib, or rim (lip), for strength, as the flange of an iron beam or I-beam;
It is also a guitar amplifier effect that sounds a bit like an aeroplane taking off
but I am sure it a dirty naughty word, just say it, doesn’t it feel just a little bit naughty?
