Fox axed the show because they wanted Joss to concentrate on Buffy. Now, I love Buffy and that is what got me into Firefly, but now that Buffy is over, Joss should get back behind the wheel of Serenity and take us on interesting, yet somewhat disturbing journeys. Afterall, isnt that what life is about? Ok, im gonna start a poll and see who responds….

Who thinks that it’s about time poor Kaylee got some loving?

Who’s Kaylee? tell me why I should love him/her/it.

Yazberry
Yazberry posted over 6 years ago

kaylee is the ship’s loveable female mechanic. she seems like an innocent girl, but is really a woman with needs on the inside. She hasn’t been sexually satisfied in a long time (being in outer space and all) and she does come up with some brilliant one liners regarding her dry spell. so i say that the poor girl needs some action in her life… and not just the type with weapons and fighting…

Why was this series axed? A brilliant cast with some great story lines and completely likeable characters. Bring it back.

Definitely the most under rated sci-fi show ever. I was a late comer having discovered the show through the Serenity movie (great btw), now that doesn’t make me a poseur as I truly, truly love the show.

Some shows need a season or two to find there legs. Firefly nailed it pretty quickly. I thought the last few episodes were some of the best TV/Sci Fi I have ever seen.

Fox execs disliked the very things that made the show great; The Western/Sci-Fi genre (Fox wanted more Sci-Fi Les Western), The emphasis on character development/interaction over action. IMO focusing on these ‘pejudices’ meant they missed the beauty and amazing potential of the show, and threw away a show in many ways better and more complex than Buffy, that given time may just have gained a larger and more Die-Hard following than even Buffy achieved.

Long live “Firefly.”

Why in the hell was this show cancelled, while unoriginal crap like “According to Jim” and “Two and a Half Men (among many other ‘wastes-of-tv-space) and the blatantly racist/sexist/stereotyping “Identity” are still aired on American television?!

Is there no justice in this world?!

I LOVE this show! I cannot believe it was axed. Considering the amount of fans it has after less than one season, I would think it was worthy of a lot longer run.

Firefly was one of those unique opportunities for a show which embodied all that defines quality sci-fi television. Too bad F*X, which had already demonstrated the abysmal extent of it’s ham-fistedness by deep-sixing Babylon 5, stayed true-to-form with Firefly, as well.

Now what we all want to know is this: Why hasn’t SOMEBODY rubbed two brain cells together to sort out that there is a boatload of cashy money in the pockets of us Browncoats, which can be theirs, if only they’ll give us our gorram show back?

I’ll be in my bunk.

Hmm.. maybe Serenity is all that we're gonna get…  Then again, they did revive Family Guy, doing some new Futurama… hmmm…  I won't hold my breath.  Oh poor Nathan Fillion…  whatever happened to Drive???

Awesome TV show. I really do not understand why it was dropped although one may guess that it wasn't marketed very well and therefore the ratings were not good. Seems like this should be revisited though: with a little marketing this show should really pay off.

We never really got to find out much about Shepherd Book. My best friend has a theory that he's one of those dudes from the movie - y'know, the guy who blindly believes in the Alliance. Except something happened, he realised the terribleness of his actions and he decided to "take some time off" - and since that job makes him nameless, he chose to name himself "Book" after the bible.

But that's just a theory. Too bad we'll probably never find out who Book really is.

Plus, I am a fan of Buffy and all, but Firefly beats Buffy anyday

The fact that this show was cancelled will forever haunt me. Even though it’s less than one season long, it is really and honestly one of the best television shows ever made. Smart, funny, intriguing premise, great characters, great actors, great directing, awesome scripts… it really had everything in the world going for it.

Joss has released two different comics series which are now available in trade paperbacks.  "Serenity: Those Left Behind" and "Serenity:  Better Days" (available in November 2008).  I haven't read Better Days, but Those left Behind is incredible.  Joss is a great comicbook writer anyway, so his quirky dialogue and humor is there, just like on the screen.  I actually laughed aloud reading this.  There are even Chinese characters thrown into the word balloons instead of the standard @*!!#@%. These comics are considered by Joss Whedon to be Firefly/Serenity canon (true to the storylines).  "Those left behind" brings back Agent Dobson from the Pilot episode.  Being shot in the head and thrown off the ship didn't kill him, but it did make him really grumpy and blind in one eye.  Also, it tells about the events that led to Inara and Shepherd Book leaving the ship, events which explain Mal's change in mood from the end of "Firefly" to the beginning of "Serenity."

Those Left Behind is available on Amazon (and probably Barnes and Noble), Better Days will be soon enough, and Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale is coming in 2009.  Ron Glass gave a few details about the Shepherd's Tale, which is about Book's life before he became a preacher.

why is this show third on the list? it's the best sci fi show by a country mile, no other t.v show has the great characters or script Firefly has. every episode is complete class check out War stories for t.v at its very best. i enjoy alot of the t.v shows that are featured on this list, babylon 5, heroes, star trek TNG to name but a few but Firefly stands head and shoulder above all of them. unfortunatly i think by killing off Wash & the shepard that was Joss's way of saying that the show was done never to return. well i'm glad i got the chance to see it but there's still many people out there who haven't so i just guess i'll keep spreading the word. "you can't stop the signal"

I voted this the best show ever (of course), but i stand by my opinion that the movie sucks… You can’t kill off Wash or Shepherd, the second mentioned not even having a real part in the movie. They just placed him out on some space-rock and showed him on screen for like 2 minutes. I think the plot is awsome, but Josh was giong to make a couple of seasons involving all of this, and instead was forced to make the story unravel in less than two hours.

I want more “two by two, hands of blue,” awsome badguys that probably would join the ranks of perfect evil-doers Josh seems to pull out his rear end.

and again, I

Overall this show is just an above average show. The production value for this show is very high, but I think that’s best thing it had going for it. The dialogue is witty, smart, wisecracking….kinda reminds me of the dialogue you’d heard from you’re typical TV sitcom like ‘Friends’....but not very realistic. There is very little sci fi in the show aside from the fact that they are in space. Why didn’t Josh Whedon just skip the sci fi aspect and make a totally Western show, I wonder. Cause there’s no Western Channel? This show does NOT live up to the hype. But I’ll tell you a show that show that does….The Wire. Or if you’re into fantasy there’s another show up HBO’s sleeve coming soon…

You see this is the exact reason why you should not have fox as your first choice if you air a new show. They will just screw it up and play the first season out of order and on top of that cancel it before it has a chance to try and make it.

I only have one question though, Why didn’t Joss or Tim try to get another station to play it? Like syfy or amc? Then show would not have been destroyed.
