Yea. I have always wondered why. I have seen almost all FFs (even the pre-Playstation ones) and FFV8 has remained on top. Well, for me at least.

This is the first Final Fantasy I played :D and I luved it
ive always found it strange that loads of people prefer VII to this – but this was the first with realistic characters and they went cartoony in VIIII and the world was tiny and crap in X so viii still rools 4 me
Hugely underrated, probably because of the complex Junctioning system.
The best story and characters, I can't get into any other game like this one...
and the "eyes on me" tune...
the characters look real…they all look pretty n handsome very cool…

The best story, the best characters. I don't get why ff7 is more valued than this one, as Cloud's & company story is almost impossible to understand. Maybe Sephiroth's sword was the master key of this game :P
And the 'triple triad' game is damn addictive!
