Filippo Brunellechi (Florence, 1377-1446) was the most important and foremost architect of the Italian Renaissance. All of his works, including the imposing dome of the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, can still be admired today in Florence. The dome, which the Florentines call 'cupolone' (big dome), was designed and built thanks to his technical and mathematical genius.
