“When I was quite young and quite small for my size, I met an old man in the Desert of Drize. And he sang me a song I will never forget, at least, well, I haven’t forgotten it yet. He sat in a terribly prickly place, but he sang with a sunny sweet smile on his face…”
“When you think things are bad, when you feel sour and blue, when you start to get mad… You should do what I do! Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky! Some people are much more…Oh, ever so much more…Oh, muchly much-much more unlucky than you!”
I just love Dr Seuss. I was given alot of his books when i was a kid, and my son, 30 years on now has them and is also a fan. Wacky and great fun. The cat in the hat rules!
was a wonderfully creative illustrator, wrote great books on life. I have about 10 of his books, and have read most of his "works" (because they are so much more than nonsense books) ... I grew up on them.
an anecdote from my childhood (I know you were all looking forward to it!) :
when I was very small I collected up all of the doctor seuss books in the house, stacked them in a seemingly gigantic pile (I really was VERY small, about three years old) and placed a banana on top. I then declared to my mother that I was ready for school. which didn't start for another year and a half for me. (which also explains my love of learning ... genetics and upbringing. I had nothing to do with it.)
