Discovering a Band before They Hit the Mainstream

Well, according to my profile here and Last.fm, essentially variations of what you're listening to, including Hell is for Heroes, Reuben and Alamos. But then there's stuff that's more dance orientated such as the Klaxons, The Longcut and LCD Soundsystem, not forgetting of course all time legendary acts such as Deftones, the Smashing Pumpkins and Rilo Kiley.

If you haven't heard of them, well, that's this the feeling of this article in effect.

a lot of bads have odd names that may only mean something to the band members or what their PR's think will sell

@ Panda: I think the name 'Fall out boy' was taken from a character in the Simpsons. Fall out boy is a television show, quite like Itchy and Scratchy, or something like that.

Fallout Boy (in it's original context) is the sidekick to a fictional superhero on The Simpsons, Radioactive Man.

In the episode when they were creating a movie for the show Milhouse auditioned for the part. It was on the other night!

At one of Fall Out Boy's concerts (when they were band nameless), they asked the audience "What should we call ourselves?" or something like that. One person yelled "Fall Out Boy!" They didn't know it was a Simpsons character at the time. (And of course, the name stuck.)

Wow....what happened to the good stuff? to the real music in the world? Fall out boy? My chemical romance? Pnic at the disco!? what's next some Britney Spears or something? wow I'm shocked... mainstream stuff sucks so much... specially emo erm poser *oops* no wait thats no it.....hmmm........ not real music "music" hmmmmm ew.

This happens to me a lot. But I never mention it because I'm afraid my friends wont believe me.

This happened with Linkin Park. I was skipping school one day and watching music videos and "One Step Closer" came on the "indie spotlight" or something.

None of my friends would believe me how awsome they sounded. A year later, everyone was listening to them.

I met the drummer from a band called elseworth. I think that's their name.

Went to an indie concert in downtown seattle with four bands playing, and only seven people showed up. I try not to play into this kind of thing because I know it’s not really special to find an undiscovered band. But I kind of felt like I was in some sort of exclusive club that day.

mainstream isn't always horrible.

i didnt discover a band or anything but befor gym class heros got popular i liked ther music,the barly got famous and there album came out in 2005.

Makes me feel all high and mighty. ^^ Lol. I've done it a lot, but I've also found music after it became super popular.

i live for finding underground music. i listen to a few bands that i love. will never go anywhere because they have already long broken up. one band i found was so underground they only made like a hundred or so cds to give to record companies. then when they all got rejected they kind of dispursed. I listen to a band that records in their kitchen in la (i was one of the first few fans of theirs on myspace...now they have much much more..still not main stream though) some bands i have discovered...they have gotten famous. and the record companies have destryoed their spark that i fell in love with

cant blame them though. it beats being broke. but it does suck when they become famous. change their sound and never are the same again. but the bands that i find that are one hit wonders usually dont disappoint. 

and fall out boy does kind of suck (to me..but im just not into that music or that scene.)

but underground bands are THE best thing about music EVER.

It's the best feeling in the world. You feel all important and like a ninja spy because not alot of people have heard of them. If anyone like eletronic screamo then check out This Romantic Tragedy/ The're this really nice band fromm Vegas.
