[1932 – 2000] Voted “Milwaukeean of the Year” and “Best Local Character” by readers of the Shepherd Express Newspaper the year he died, Dick Bacon was a tireless lobbyist for a nude beach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a year-round lakefront sunbathing fixture, a nude model at Milwaukee colleges, and a retired Pabst Brewery employee.
Crowned during the seventies as “Mr. Nude America,” “Mr. Nude Apollo,” and “Mr. Nude Galaxy,” Dick Bacon fought unsuccessfully to save Paradise Beach, Milwaukee’s only clothing-optional beach on Lake Michigan. The beach was officially closed in 1993.
In 2001, Gallery H2O held “A Memorial Tribute to Dick Bacon,” featuring the works of more than 50 students and professional artists who had drawn Mr. Bacon over the years.
And yes, that’s Dick Bacon posing as the strongman on your pound of Alterra coffee.
