Dian Fossey (1932-1985) was a primatologist who studied gorillas in Rwanda. She was initially urged to work there by Louis Leakey. She worked hard to save gorillas from poachers. Tragically, she was brutally murdered, most likely by these same poachers. The film "Gorillas in the Mist," starring Sigourney Weaver, is about her.
