I love how Abrams brings epic and philosophical elements into this show. For example Desmond recalls both David Hume (the scottish philosopher that based his philosophy on human reason and insight) and Odysseus (from the Odyssey.. I mean he sails around often and his wife is named Penelope too.) Abrams does the same with John Locke. (similarities found in the philosopher by being concerned with identity.) Ironically enough, or perhaps very insightful, Abrams also has the philosopher name Rousseau as a character (influencer of the French Revolution) and it doesn’t stop with just these characters either. it’s amazing how smart television can be sometimes.
