The word “darling” always calls to my mind 1930’s movies where people are extremely well-dressed, with impeccable homes, and elegant manners. The word just connotes admirability. I think if you call someone “darling” you’re really communicating how precious they are to you. I wish somebody would call me that (sincerely).
