Dallas Winston

Played by Matt Dillon in the 1983 "Outsiders" film, Dallas "Dally" Winston has a gruff exterior, but inwardly is loyal to his friends, particularly Ponyboy, who's younger than Dallas and more vulnerable.

After what happens to his younger friend, Johnny Cade, Dallas wants to avenge him by fighting with the Socs - yet again. The Greasers win the fight, but soon thereafter, Johnny dies of injuries he'd earlier sustained. Dallas and Ponyboy are there with Johnny as he passes away. Dallas can't deal with the grief, and kills himself soon afterwards.

Ponyboy is sure to honor Dallas' memory by letting others know that, although he was indeed a capable - and rough - fighter, Dallas was also a loyal friend.
