As portrayed in virtually every dystopian future setting you'd hope to find in literature, film, television and video games, credits are the currency of faceless, institutionalized opression, but you can't knock their acceptance rate. You want to buy an iPod, go ahead and use your checkbook. But if you want a guy in a back alley to replace your left arm with an illegal laser cannon, you know he's going to want to see credits upfront.
