The Cray-2 was a vector supercomputer made by Cray Research starting in 1985. It was the fastest machine in the world when it was released. It was liquid cooled with Flourinert which gave it the nickname “Bubbles”.
The Cray-2 with a list price of $17 million reached a performance of about 2 GFLOPS. Today a not so current PC with a Pentium-4 processor at 3GHz reaches about 6 GFLOPS.
