If you would like to get technical witht he genre of music, they are BLACK metal, and by far one of the highest rated metal bands
Well I wouldn't consider them Black Metal, at least not the aggressive sort like Dark Funeral or Marduk. The only real Black Metal vibe I get is from their old stuff which was more Symphonic Black Metal. I think their newer stuff is more of a mixture between Symphonic Black Metal and Gothic Metal with Gothic Metal leanings. I think overall they are pretty difficult to truely classify. That's just my take.
