May I ask you without polemic do common sense not mean the diktat of the majority over numerous minorities? Isn’t it that was in german is called “gesunder Menschenverstand”?
Yeah, pretty much as far as I understand it. Common sense is things like not putting your hand in boiling water and looking both ways before crossing the road. That sort of thing.
I have to disagree with Bob on this – the opposite of scepticism I would think to be gullibility and the opposite of common sense probably naïvety. Although naïvety and gullibility are related words, I think in some cases it would actually be common sense to be sceptical.
Ahhh, philosophical scepticism! “Here is a hand!” and all that. I was pertaining to the (dare I call it) common sceptisism, where, should a man come to you and declare “I will now leap over four cars in a single bound!”, common sense would dictate that you be sceptical that he would achieve this.
Philosophical sceptisism is an entirely different kettle of fish!

It’s not so common…

Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen. (Albert Einstein)
ahahahaha, oh that Albert, always the joker…
what a lovely quote, swissbob.
group hug…
Dear Kittilyn don’t belive me. Don’t belive Albert. We both have a big lack of common sense.
Swissbob, you make me reconsider my vote…
You should. You’ve voted for skepticism. Common sense is just the opposite.
You’ve won me over.

Two philosophers Thomas Reid and G.E. Moore, individually, appealed to common sense to refute skepticism. From Wikepedia
