Chlorophyll is the molecule that absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to synthesise carbohydrates from CO2 and water. This process is known as photosynthesis and is the basis for sustaining the life processes of all plants. Since animals and humans obtain their food supply by eating plants, photosynthesis can be said to be the source of our life also.
Chlorophyll is a super-cool compound that sucks up sunlight energy, then takes carbon dioxide and water and makes carbohydrates out of them! (Photosynthesis, you know.) Chlorophyll is green, and it’s what makes plants and protists (like algae) green. Chlorophyll is important not only to plants, but to everything else as well! Chlorophyll’s abilities are the source of all the energy of all the beings on earth (pretty much.) We’d surely be lost without it. Plus, it’s pretty.
