Born 27 june 1906, Tyne dock,south shields. was the illegitimate child of a alcoholic mother. Was Britian most widely read noveliest. Her books was inspired by her deprived youth in north east england. Her works includes fifteen street and tilly trotter trilogy. She died 11 june 1998.
