Robert Larkin III co-created Captain Planet with Ted Turner and media innovator Barbara Pyle, in 1990 with the intent of entertaining viewers and increasing awareness of environmental hazards.[citation needed]
Captain Planet was summoned whenever the five Planeteers combined the forces of their elemental rings. This emphasized the show's premise that only by working together could people protect the planet and provide solutions to environmental problems. Likewise, Captain Planet's appearance did not identify him with any one culture or ethnicity, as his hair was Forest Green and his skin was Sky Blue

Hey, what exactly did the Heart guy do? Talk to animals?
Wasn’t he Telepathic or something?
That’s the thing. His powers were so vague!
When we were kids playing Captain Planet, no one wanted to be the Heart kid.
Also, his name was Mati, right? In Malay that translates into dead! I always thought it was ironic.
I reckon! I always wanted to be Fire. HAHA well I didn’t know about the dead thing. Thats really funny. Maybe they wanted to kill him off eventually because no one liked him…?
Yeah! hahah! Hey, let’s be friends!
Sure!
wow i miss it…
It’s ok.. we’ll always remember the good Captain through rose-tinted glasses.
I reckon… haha It’s funny how everyone’s having a random chat at the captain planet page. thumbs up
The power is ours
yes. rose tinted glasses. LIKE THE SONG !! ^
la vie en rose.
an episode i remember clearly was the one when the team got stuck in a dumpster and had to make a plane out of pencils, (or something) to escape.
yes, i enjoy the random chat as well!! :D
i know that when i was a kid, everybody wants to be the fire kid. coz he’s cool.
yes, the heart guy was fairly useless. he can talk to dolphins, though.
Yeah man the fire kid was awesome! I had the action figure. Sparks came out of its chest. It was weird.
can we put captain pollution as a best stuff? he is a villain and enemy of captain planet right? that would make him the best villain in the world (which villain has the superpowers to pollute and destroy earth?) I remember in the series where all the villains corrupted the ring and created a ring of their own which later created captain pollution. still cant remember how captain planet defeated that badass.
Add him!
you forgot HEART ! lol
ahahahah i love the robot chicken were ted turner dressed up like captain planet, and ran aroung kicking people in the ball taht littered
^ hahahah. no idea what you;re on about! :D
I do! Captaaaaaaaaaaain Plannet!
Whatever it is, it sounds pretty amusing!
who knows why, but when i was little i somehow got it in my head that wheeler and linka were brother and sister, and then that episode came around when they were like making out in the bushes and it completely freaked me out.
man, that must be quite a shocker
yes, it scarred me mentally. it may explain a lot of my weirdness.
I just want to know how much coke it took to get Fred Schneider to record a rap about this show.
The mega mack daddy of ecology?!
Ha. Probably not much. So many people have done versions of the theme song and stuff. I’d say its probably one of the most “garage band” covered songs of all time and beyond. But you know, it’s a cool enough show and Sir Planet is a cool enough guy.
You know, if it were a recent thing, I could chalk it up to that. But Fred Schneider actually recorded this for the cartoon, before it even existed, so it’s unlikely he was moved by some fit of ironic love for the series.
Plus, he describes Captain Planet as having “A PhD in sustainable yield.” To me, that does not scream “sobriety”.
I probably should have listened to the song before i answered! He recorded it for the show though!? Wow.
So I’m told. Apparently it was intended as some sort of alternate theme song, but they didn’t get around to using it right away. Officially, it’s called “The Eco Rap”.
The mystery of how they lured the frontman of the friggin B-52s into a studio to record this atrocity, if not with mountains and moutains of white powder, remains. Weren’t the B-52s still cool in the 90s? Are modern coca-farming practices really all that sustainable? So many questions.
Nyehe, I still frickin' love this show! I shouldn't, but its so corny I just love it.
