It's hard to respect a singer who doesn't write the songs. That's like a man who goes to work in uniform and smiles at the customers as they walk through, while everyone else is actually working. Still, he gets all the credit.
Actually, Brendon has made a conscious effort to attribute the band's success to teamwork. He doesn't pretend to write the music and acknowledges that Ryan has written several songs. To say that one doesn't respect a singer who didn't write the songs is irrational. No one would feel that a guitarist or pianist playing a song that a singer wrote was untalented. So he didn't write the songs. The boy can sing!
