Drama with David Morrissey and David Tennant. The plot concerns the murder of a young man in a Blackpool arcade, and how it affects the people involved in the arcade and the investigation.

I liked Blackpool. David Morrissey is extraordinary as Ripley, and some of its numbers - like The Boy With The Thorn In His Side - wonderfully complemented the dramatic and plot-twisting story. There were far too many episodes, though, with the songs slowly becoming more shoehorned in and less relevant as the series progressed.

There was also a disappointing close to the series that left this viewer (at least!) with a reaction of “hmm” rather than “that was jolly good!”. That said, it still remains a strong series with a well-written (if inconsistent) script – and remains superior to a lot of television then and now. Viva Blackpool!
