The most cynical of London bookshop owners, Bernard Black (Dylan Moran) is a scruffy haired, regularly drunken Irish blaggard whose sole purpose in life is to simply despise it. And sell the occasional book, if he must.
Accompanied by his companions Manny (Bill Bailey) and Fran (Tamsin Greig) the patrons of this shabby-excuse-for-an-establishment just manage to survive their interaction with Bernard and his friends, all nicely washed down with hilarious drop of red (“splishy-splashy”!) A must see for any black humour fans. Get 20 odd episodes (full series) on DVD.

Nothing to say about this man and TV series except FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC! I went and saw this guy live at The Melbourne Comedy Festival and he was amazing. Nothing i have seen so far has come close, continue with the good work!
Could Bernard Black be my hero?
I was bored after the second episode.
Hilarious show.
pure genius comedy! Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran, so many memorable lines and laugh out loud moments. Shame it all ended after 3 series.
Dylan Moran stars as Dylan Moran! I used to work in a Borders store in Edinburgh and Dylan used to come in and fret over which books and magazines to buy. You sometimes seem him standing around in the street looking vexed and want to hug him. He basically plays himself, I think. Wonderful.
Bernard: He’s a midget. A tiny midget. Manny: What if he overheard? Bernard: He won’t. His ears are too small.
Fran: Do you know nothing about modern culture, Bernard? Beckham, Posh, Pokemon… Bernard: Pacman. It’s pronounced Pacman.
Evan: Don’t eat muffins when I’m developing you.
Manny: Let’s paaaaar… Bernard: Don’t you dare use the word “party” as a verb in this shop!
There’s the elephant. He’s happy with his balloon. Oh no! It’s gone! Where is it? It’s not behind the rhino. Look in the alligator’s mouth! It’s not there either. Oooh, the monkey’s got it in the tree! He brings it back, they all drink lemonade. The end.
I’m seriously in love with Black Books.
Dylan Moran is a genius. Combine that with Bill Bailey and you’ve got something bloody brillaint. Tamsin Greig is fantastic too.
“Up with this I will not put!” – Bernard Just needs a cuddle.
Moo-Pa: So, Bernard, the shop’s still called “Black Books”, is it? Bernard: Yeah. I was going to call it “World of Tights”, but you know how stupid people are, you have to spell everything out!
love Tamsin Greig – Debbie Aldridge, every middle aged man’s fantasy voice.
This show never fail to amuse me! I love manny, and could Bernard be more funny
i've watched the entire collection ( all 3 seasons ) of Black Books episodes... must say that all of them were very funny and hillarious :D
