Atheism, in its broadest sense, is the absence of belief in the existence of deities. A narrower definition includes only those who believe that deities do not exist, and excludes those who hold no position on the question (see agnostics and other non-theists). In other words, an “atheist” can be defined as either:
- A person who does not believe that at least one god exists; or
- A person who has a positive belief that no god or gods exist.

Atheism sucks. Mormons are better.
How can you not see god in all the things he has created? And Mormons are better.
Pre Darwin it would have made sense to say because of all this complexity it must have been made by an omnipotent designer. And because the way our brains are wired we see patterns in nature and attribute it to design. And because we are scared of the thought of dying and non-existence we invent an after life and a higher power.
Sorry but Darwin and Freud killed these myths a century ago. Christians and god believers are deluded. There is no god. There is no proof of god. There is no proof that prayer works. The bible was written by primitive men over 2000 years ago, not god. The universe is older than 6000 years. It’s as simple as that.
When you can prove it scientifically – that is that it can be tested, come back and show us. Until then.

If there’s no God, what is the purpose of living? Life cannot possibly have any meaning if there is no Creator. Propagating the species is completely pointless. It’s too depressing a notion to contemplate, if you ask me.
You make a great argument which I think strengthens most people’s desire to believe in god. To answer your question, life itself is the purpose of living.

I’m not sure if you are religious deathbypingu, but it’s interesting that you say atheism is a religion. Though the dictionary will probably disagree with you. But I understand what you are trying to say, and I’ll try and clarify the atheist position.

Blake – shit, us atheists know we don’t know if there is life after death (but using probability, chances not). I don’t like the idea of dying, and would love to have an afterlife. (Probably why I respect life more than you cultists do with your war lust). But I’m not going to lie to myself just because some religion or cult tells me so. Why should I believe your cult and not Zeus, some nature spirit or islam is the truth?

Some say god made us in his image. Unfortunately we all make mistakes and interpret things the wrong way! maybe he does too! Unfortunately his hands are tied because he said he doesn’t need to prove himself. You certanly don’t know much if all you know is what can be tested “scientifically”, that is if you can trust those who do the testing. And if there is two Big Names who didn’t prove the things they asserted it was Freud and Darwin, whom hardly anyone really believes anymore. Get a life!
What life? Or better yet, what other life? I’m not speaking of Darwin or Freud. It’s a scientific fact that everything in the universe evolves. Planets, stars, plants, animals. Demonstrated by stars, up to it’s highest point until it dies, and is reborn again. Even if there is a God, there is no possible justifyable reasoning or point to it all. Anything we do, anything we try to prove, all comes down to nothing. You are a lucky man. You who thinks that this all means something. Call me what you will. It doesn’t matter.

Yeah and to make a point all Monotheists should give up anything that was invented by scientists. Scientists are good for nothing! You can’t have it both ways believe scientists sometimes but only if it doesn’t upset your religious nature. If you did give progress up you would be living in the context your books of wisdom were written.
