Yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so since you dont know how everyone interprets different objects or subjects then everything is art, maybe not to everyone but.... O! I cant explain it I talk with my hands too much to have a debate about such a complex thing as interpretating art online lol  but anyways i agree with you to a certain point

Good quote Finrod

And thats called modern art Geoffery, I dont care for it but somebody does

gbman
gbman posted 11 months ago

That's what I meant, that kind of art is not for me, but someone out there likes it. And that's just fine.

Finrod posted 11 months ago

It's just crossed my mind that Monet had a cataract operation late on in his life. When he'd recovered, he looked at his recent paintings - and re-painted them in the way that he thought they should look.

He was still looking at the world through the limitation of his eyes, though...

Well an artist is his own hardest critic

Kinda reminds me of Picaso.

Oh how i love art… art of every kind that is! i truly love every single art form there is. Dali is my favorite abstract artist. love his moustache

I don't agree much with the description given above…. art did not start with the Renaissance…. would you deny that, for example, ancient Greek statues are art???

swissbob
swissbob posted 11 months ago
Art is much older.
Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 11 months ago

Yeah, that's exactly the point, Swissbob!!

;)

everytime i see a painting, i stop and take a look and analyze what i have seen in….i love it especially those classic ones way back 14th century. Leonardo da Vinci, Michealangelo, Frida Kahlo ( although her works are  kinda disturbing) etc.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Have to love Leonardo and Michelangelo! ;)

p.s. Frida Kahlo is also very good!

Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only beauty.
(Oscar Wilde)

Mmhhh... interesting quote....

Undecided

Are we among the elect?

i like that van gogh painting whatsitcalled… oh yah "starry night" or whatever…

swissbob
swissbob posted 10 months ago

All art is quite useless.

(Oscar Wilde again)

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Yep, Oscar is right… and it's this being useless that makes art divine….;)

dumbbrunette
dumbbrunette posted 10 months ago

Frida is ok :/ its better if you know here history behind the art, but then again all art is like that if your know the story behind the icture. The emotion that the artist was thinking and feeling when they were painting

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

I'm not sure I understand Oscar's meaning when he said all art is useless. I find many uses for art.

RichardAM
RichardAM posted 10 months ago

But it is useless. Art in a conventional sense is merely for display purposes, it's sole aim is to be hung on a wall and look pretty, but I think we've gone through some incredible movements and turning points that that reasoning is perhaps now a little outdated.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Art is useless if you compare it to food, clothes, water, air or whatever is essential for living.....

The thing is, we could survive without a Leonardo painting or without the Beatles songs, but life would be much much worse without these things.....

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

But.. but.. I can't survive without art! Maybe I'm just being difficult.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Yeah I know what you mean… but that was to explain Oscar Wilde's quote ;)

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

He was a very peculiar person. I remember reading about him. Ah well.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

I truly like him. Witty guy. ;)

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

Oh very… WWaaayyyy ahead of his time. After watching a movie called Velvet Goldmine, I took interest.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

I loved Velvet Goldmine. ;) Now that you reminded me, I think I'm going to vote for that movie!!

;)

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

Yeah, it's one of my favorite movies. I watched it last night actually. I thought Christian Bale truly showed how versatile he is with this movie. Anyway, you should, :P.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Just did it, hehe…. yes Christian Bale was great, but also Ewan and Jonathan…. not bad…;)

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

Yeah, it's always fun to try and see what references movies are making to reality. Like Brian Slade's character is Davis Bowie, Curt Wilde is Iggy Pop, and I'm sure there are more. I'm just entirely sure what they are. Anyways, yay for symbolism.

Nick_raccoon
Nick_raccoon posted 10 months ago

Yeah… although certainly David Bowie did not turn out to be like Tommy Stone, or whatever Brian Slade is called in the movie when he comes back in the 80s….

M_eanwhile
M_eanwhile posted 10 months ago

Yeah, that guy's hair scared me.

Nick_raccoon
