Andrew S. Tanenbaum was involved with the creation of Unix, the creation of GCC and GNU , and the creation of Linux—even if mostly as a naysayer. He famously told Linus Torvalds that if he had developed Linux for Tanenbaum’s class, he would have gotten an F.
Tanenbaum also created Minix, a free educational operating system, and wrote the best books about operating systems, Operating Systems: Design and Implementation and Modern Operating Systems
