Ana is integrating sports into the Brazilian education system to improve the quality of Brazilian education for children across the socioeconomic spectrum. A retired professional volleyball player, Ana believes sports are essential in teaching children critical thinking skills, teamwork, proactive civic participation, and healthy lifestyle habits. Ana increases children’s access to quality physical education by increasing the number of educators qualified to teach physical education. She also trains educators to effectively use sports to teach children a wider range of skills and values. In 2006, Ana’s Institute reached more then 1,000 teachers and 12,000 children.
