A Gilbert O'Sullivan song, released in 1972. I would reproduce the lyrics here, but frankly I don't want anyone's suicide on my conscience.
A synopsis would be:
Act I: In which our hero contemplates suicide after being left at the altar, not only by fiance, but everyone.
Act II: In which our hero reflects on yesterday's happiness, and starts to doubt God.
Act III: In which our hero thinks back to the death of his parents.
It has been used in various films and tv shows over the years, most notably in the Simpsons, the Virgin Suicides, and was referenced in Love Actually - Colin Firth's character mentions the title after finding his girl in bed with his brother. Certainly in my mind the most touching of the film's storylines.
In my (teary) eyes it gets a sadness rating of:

Loneliness has followed me my whole life, everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape...

That's sad, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd take you out for a beer, but I'm bloody miles away!
Nah, I'm good. I do get lonely sometimes though. I enjoy being alone but not lonely. That was a quote from Taxi Driver, I thought it was a good fit :)
Tsk. I should've got that, really, must be time I watched it again!
