Akira (アキラ, Akira?) is a 1988 anime film by Katsuhiro Otomo based on his manga of the same name. The movie led the way for the growing popularity of anime in the West, where Akira is considered the beginning of the second wave of anime fandom, which began in the early 1990s. Although most of the character designs and basic settings were adapted from the orignal manga, the movie presents a plot different from the manga.

this was the first anime I saw and I instanly fell in love with them. I now have a huge anime colloction and lot’s of manga to read. This movie even inspired me to learn the language. Love the film
