There's 12 noon and there's 12 midnight. Everything after midnight that's before noon (ante meridiem in Latin) is a.m. and everything that's after noon (post meridiem) is p.m.
What could be simpler?

Ugh I hate it when people say 12. It gets so confusing since most of my friends wake up around noon and go to bed after midnight, they can always mean either and dfgkdfgslfg.
I agree 100%, that's why I switched my cell phone to 24-hr time. 12:00 is pm, and 24:00, well… 23:59 is am. Of course when it's 1300, or 1:00pm, I have to remember to subtract 12 hours, but I'm gettin' the hang of it. Am I rambling, or does this actually make sense?
Mostly-ish.
Fun-ny!
What can I say? It's a gift.
dfgkdfgslfg? Do your friends always talk like that?
I cannot stand 24 hour time! :)
This is about global warming isn't it?
Do my friends always talk like what?
Your first comment- they can always mean either and dfgkdfgslfg. Does it stand for something?
Oh. That's the noise I make when I'm frustrated… more or less. Xckjghskd! And yeah, my best friend Kylie does the same thing.
Haha! No, gb. :) This is about the confusion in my head. I can only take so many numbers. ;)
NimbleMarmoset: I'm not particularly wild about is either, but when I HAVE to get up at 5:00am, and I mistakenly set the alarm for 5:00pm... Not good!
Melissa: I make a noise also when I am frustrated... @#$!%&#$@*(^%. Not that I'm frustrated now, I'm just sharing.
Lucky you. Keep those profanities handy, you'll need 'em when you're driving around town. I live in Pennsylvania, and the folks in NJ can't drive!! They say that about us also. I don't know what that's supposed to mean to you, but please take it in the spirit in which it was intended.
Oooooh speaking of bad drivers: The other day there was this PT Cruiser in front of me in the left turn lane at a red light. The car kept inching up, to the point that it was in the intersection trying to turn left when the light was still red! My best friend started freaking out and the car in the lane to our right kept honking at the driver to stop going, and then when it did turn green, they wouldn't go. So I laid on my horn for about a minute while my best friend started screaming every swear word she could think of out of the window… the whole time we were assuming it was a retarded new driver or something but it was this middle aged Mexican woman, so she probably didn't even have a liscense… and… uh… it was 12 noon? (I hate getting off topic, damn you gbman!)
i only agree with the midnight time for being non exsistent non noon
you just dont say its zero hour. and luckely im not saying anything with am or pm. who made up the am's and pm's? Is it something like driving at the left side of the road?
(Somehow missed answering your question, Boomstam. Sorry!)
The phrases a.m. and p.m. are Latin and originated with the Romans. A big difference in Latin usage is that '3 a.m.' meant '3 hours before noon' (i.e. our modern nine o'clock in the morning) and was followed by '2 a.m.' and '1 a.m.' and then noon.
thanks ":)
Niets te danken!
"geen dank" is a more used term to answer this. but "niets te danken" is correct
you did! but it was a really good sentence you used. only to formally
That's what you get for lifting it out of an online dictionary without checking!
You should try doing the same thing in Japanese... now that would be a nightmare!
