The action figures of today are better, I’ll admit. I still prefer comics, RPG ’s, and video games ‘80s style, though.
I have a BA in English, but I knew it was worthless; I just needed an undergraduate degree in something so I could go to library school. I worked in retail for eight years. I hope I never have to go back to that. I turned me into someone I didn’t like.
My worst job ever was definitely Blockbuster Video. Prior to that, I never realized just how fanatical people are about movies. They’d come in on Friday or Saturday night and expect the “hottest” new release to be there. When it wasn’t, they’d be all, “When do you expect it back?” and I’d be all, “Uh, when whoever has it decides to bring it back.”
The worst thing, though, was bringing in the videos that were in the drop box. Customers would gather around to see what had been returned as if it were some sort of religious experience. It was even worse when it rained, and we had to dry the videos off with a towel.
I am not what you’d call a huge movie fan. I like certain films, but I’d much rather read or play video games than watch movies. People would ask me if I had seen a certain movie, and I’d be all, “No.” One time this woman said, “Why do you work here?” I was mad at the time, but she made a good point. Why do people care whether or not I’ve seen a movie, anyway? It’s not as if my opinion means anything. There are no absolutes when it comes to taste in movies (or anything else). Think for yourselves, people.
If you like Thundarr, I highly recommend picking up Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth. It’s a comic book that was done by Jack Kirby (one of the designers on Thundarr) back in the ‘70s. In the future, animals and humans have traded roles, and Kamandi is one of the last human beings to have retained intellect. DC has put out two archive editions so far. Each one has ten issues in it. They’re kind of pricey (you can get them on Amazon for about $35 each), but they’re really nice hardcovers.

Thanks for writing! It looks like we have a lot in common. I am such a child of the ‘80s. Everything was better back then.
